The Most Blessed Days Of The Year

There are certain moments in the Islamic calendar that seem to arrive with a different feeling altogether. The first ten days of Dhul Hijjah are among them. These are not ordinary days. They are days spoken about by the Prophet ﷺ as being among the best of the entire year, days in which good deeds are more beloved to Allah than at any other time.

For those fortunate enough to be performing Hajj, these days mark the journey of a lifetime. Millions of people answer the call first made by Prophet Ibrahim عليه السلام, travelling from every corner of the globe towards Makkah with the same purpose: seeking the pleasure of Allah. Yet even for those of us remaining at home, these days are an invitation. An invitation to pause, to reassess our priorities and to reconnect with what truly matters.

Perhaps one of the most moving aspects of Hajj season is the perspective it brings. Watching the pilgrims standing on the plains of Arafah, dressed in simple garments with no distinction of status, wealth or nationality, reminds us how temporary this world really is. The things that occupy our thoughts for much of the year suddenly feel smaller. We think about our parents. We remember loved ones who have passed away. We make dua for our children, our families and our futures. We reflect on where we are heading and what we hope to stand before Allah with on the Day of Judgement.

Among these blessed days, the Day of Arafah holds a special place. Even for those not performing Hajj, it is a day filled with immense reward and opportunity. It is a day of forgiveness, sincere repentance and heartfelt dua. Many Muslims spend it fasting, increasing their remembrance of Allah and making dua not only for themselves but for everyone they hold dear. There is something profoundly comforting about knowing that millions of believers across the world are turning to Allah with the same hopes, fears and prayers.

These days also encourage a certain simplicity in our lives. As worship takes centre stage, many of the distractions that fill our daily routines begin to fade into the background. We find ourselves seeking ease, comfort and practicality, whether in the way we spend our time, the company we keep or even the clothing we reach for. Breathable fabrics, effortless silhouettes and pieces that allow us to move comfortably through prayer gatherings, family visits and Eid preparations often become the natural choice during this season.

Yet the greatest gift of Dhul Hijjah is not found in what we wear or what we own. It is found in the opportunity to draw closer to Allah. These ten days remind us that every year brings another chance to begin again, to seek forgiveness, to strengthen family ties and to increase in gratitude. They remind us that success is not measured by what we accumulate, but by what we send ahead for the Hereafter.

As Eid approaches and the days draw to a close, perhaps the most important thing we can ask ourselves is not what we have achieved, but how we have spent these precious moments. Whether we are standing on the plains of Arafah or making dua from our homes, we pray that Allah accepts from us, forgives us and keeps us in good health and strong faith.
